Two men jailed on drug charges at the Iredell County Detention Center face new charges following an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrests of Michael Lamar Gaines, 40, of Alfaretta Avenue, Akron, Ohio, and Wade Wallace Doering, 37, of Delargy Circle, Mooresville, in a news release.
On Monday, March 18, Detention Center deputies intercepted a U.S. Postal Service package that was marked “Urgent Legal Action,” the sheriff said.
This package was addressed to Doering. Upon further examination, deputies and narcotics investigators discovered that the package contained 32 Suboxone strips concealed under large band-aids, according to the news release.
Narcotics investigators discovered that the package had been sent from an address in Cleveland, Ohio, which was an attorney firm, but no one at that location represented Doering, Campbell said.
During the investigation, investigators determined that Doering and Gaines, who was Doering’s cellmate, were involved in efforts to have the package sent, according to the news release.
A woman who sent the package from Ohio is also being investigated and additional charges may be issued, Campbell said.
Doering and Gaines were charged with Felony Conspiracy to Introduce a Controlled Substance into a Detention Center. Magistrate Nethken issued a “No Bond” order based on each subject’s criminal history.
Doering faces several drug charges, including trafficking in methamphetamine.
Gaines is awaiting trial on numerous charges, including trafficking in heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine.
