Sheriff: Woman faces felony charges after deputy finds assortment of drugs in vehicle

A Mooresville woman faces felony drug charges after an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy found an assortment of illegal drugs in her vehicle.

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Jessica Nicole Hawkins, 44, of Mayhew Park Lane, Mooresville, in a news release Tuesday.

Deputy J. Kent who is assigned to ICSO Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team, encountered Hawkins on Sunday, July 28, after observing a vehicle without a registration plate in the roadway at the intersection of Brawley School Road and Rolling Hill Road, Campbell said.

Hawkins, who was driving the vehicle, appeared extremely nervous, prompting further investigation, according to the news release.

During the initial interaction, Deputy Kent noticed a plastic bag, which appeared to contain methamphetamine, inside the vehicle, the sheriff said.

While searching the vehicle, deputies found additional illegal substances, including a vape pen with THC oil and a piece of tin foil containing fentanyl, according to the news release. Further investigation led to the discovery of a bag containing cocaine on Hawkins’ person, Campbell said.

She was charged with Felony Possession of Cocaine, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of Fentanyl, Felony Maintaining a Vehicle for a Controlled Substance and two misdemeanor drug offenses.

Hawkins was taken into custody and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where Magistrate Russell set her bond at $50,000.

“This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of our deputies to combat drug-related crimes in Iredell County,” Campbell said. “We remain committed to protecting our citizens from the dangers associated with illegal substances.”
