South Iredell Volunteer Fire Chief Jerry Starr was honored at the department’s recent annual meeting for completing his five-year term as chief and for his 35 years of service to the community.

Chief Starr started in the fire service at the age of 13 as a junior fire fighter in 1989 and achieved the highest rank by becoming chief in 2019. He plans to continue serving the community and department.

“Every firefighter owes the house a debt. I believe after being the fire chief and serving in every role the department has I have paid that debt because I’m not retiring from the organization,” Starr said. “Every day now I give is out of love and not love and obligation — just love of the job and community.”

Starr was been bestowed the title of Division Chief of SIVFD and will continue to work with county administrators and elected officials for the betterment of the Iredell County Fire Service. He also serves as captain of Mooresville Fire- Rescue Engine 1.
