South Iredell Volunteer Fire Department personnel deployed to Newland, Banner Elk and the Crossnore area of Western North Carolina early Sunday morning to deliver supplies and assist communities in the area. The devastation they saw was unprecedented. It was unbelievable how high the water had gotten in so many areas. A home raised on stilts still had water up to the top rail of the deck. Landslides wiped out everything in their path. It was surreal to see the power of Mother Nature. Supplies were dropped off at the Linville Fire Department, Open Door Baptist Church and Mountaineer Ruritan by Ruritan Park before the SIVFD crews drove through neighborhoods and offered assistance to anyone who needed it.
