FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Statesville Police Department is asking for the public to assist with the investigation of last week’s armed robbery of an employee of Brinks Armed Transport.

About 2:15 p.m. on Friday, August 30, SPD officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at the CVS Pharmacy located at 3111 Taylorsville Highway.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a Brinks Armed Transport employee suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso, according to an SPD news release.

Based on witness statements and other evidence, officers determined that two suspects attempted to rob the guard as he was leaving the store and returning to the Brinks vehicle, police said. During the confrontation, the guard was shot, but managed to return fire at the suspects.

The suspects fled the scene in a bronze-colored Dodge Charger, police said.

The guard was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into the attempted robbery and shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Statesville Police Department at (704) 878-3406.
