The Statesville Family YMCA blessed school-age children with back to school supplies and clothing on Saturday.

The children began their day with breakfast provided by Thrive Church and the YMCA. Afterwards, everyone headed to the Statesville Walmart on the Y’s buses.

While there, each child was assisted by their own personal shopper, who helped select their size of clothing, accessories, and other needed items.

Executive Director Blake Blakley has seen firsthand the need for clothing and supplies throughout the year and knows the importance of children having what they need.

“It makes them happy to walk into school with new clothes,” she said.

Along with their clothes, they get shoes, book bags, and other supplies.

When the students and volunteers returned from Walmart, the YMCA provided lunch to the students before their parents picked them up.
