Special to IFN

The Stony Point Volunteer Fire Department recently held its 17th Annual Cruise-In. The event featured a wonderful array of cars, trucks and motorcycles. This year’s event included numerous new cruisers as well as visitors from as far away as Florida and a foreign exchange student from France.

The focus of this year’s event was supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Piedmont Triad, which has helped numerous families in the department over the years. SPVFD members wore the charity’s 40th anniversary T-shirts during the event. Sales of the T-shirt help cover the cost of staying in the Ronald McDonald House in Winston-Salem.

In lieu of an entry fee, patrons were asked to provide care items for the nonprofit or bottled water, Gatorade and individually wrapped snacks for the SPVFD.

BBQ sandwiches and hot dogs with all the trimmings were served. There were also cake walks, which were very popular among those in attendance. The DJ for the event was Matthew Gibson. A cash raffle was held with half of the proceeds going to the department for projects and the other half being split between two winners who chose to remain anonymous.

Specialty awards were given to cruisers based on voting by the SPVFD Auxiliary, SPVFD Firefighters, and the patrons.
