The Town of Mooresville recently earned recognition as a 2023 Tree City USA. This is Mooresville’s 15th year as a Tree City USA town.
The Arbor Day Foundation awarded Mooresville the recognition because the town met the program’s four requirements: maintaining a tree board or department, having a tree care ordinance, dedicating an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and hosting an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
The Foundation says communities worldwide are facing issues with air quality, water resources, personal health, and well-being. It applauded the Town of Mooresville for taking “steps to create a brighter, greener future.”
Mooresville is one of more than 3,600 Tree City USA communities.
“We are thrilled to once again be recognized as a Tree City USA town,” said Interim Manager Jim Landon. “Our tree canopies are important to our residents, and we strive to continue this important recognition.”
Tree City USA, founded in 1976, is a partnership between the Arbor Day Foundation, U.S. Forest Service, and National Association of State Foresters. For more information on the program, visit ArborDay.org/TreeCityUSA.
