FROM STAFF REPORTS
The Troutman Police Department has released the names of a woman who died and two men who were injured in a crash that shut down South Main Street for about three hours on Tuesday.
The crash occurred about 12:59 p.m. when a vehicle driven by Troutman resident Mildred Jones, 85, turned left from Autumn Leaf Road into the path of a dump truck traveling south on South Main Street, resulting in a collision between the vehicles, according to a TPD news release.
The dump truck then rolled onto its passenger side and struck a truck pulling a trailer that was waiting to turn left from South Main Street onto Autumn Leaf Road. This second collision resulted in the truck and trailer being forced back into a TPD patrol vehicle that was waiting in traffic behind the truck, police said.
As a result of the collision, Mildred Jones and her passenger, Kenneth Jones, 87, also of Troutman, suffered serious injuries. They were transported to area medical centers, where Mildred Jones succumbed to her injuries, according to the news release.
The driver of the dump truck, William Wallace, 46, of Hudson was also transported to a hospital.
The TPD investigation of this crash is ongoing. No criminal charges have been filed.
Responding agencies included Iredell County EMS, Troutman Fire & Rescue, the TPD and the N.C. Department of Transportation.

When are they going to learn they have overpopulated Troutman? How many more traffic accidents have to happen for the big shots to learn?
The Troutman Town Council needs to go to prevent Ron Wyatt from screwing up Troutman even more. All they see are dollar signs.
Sad for everyone involved in this accident. A traffic light is much needed there with all the increased traffic. It is difficult to turn off Autumn Leaf in either direction onto Main Street because it is a blind turn due to the hill by the church and all the traffic. There needs to be major road work done in general in Troutman. Traffic is congested constantly where the new “storage unit building is, apartments, Tractor Supply and whatever else is in the process of being built not too far up the road from Autumn Leaf. Beyond terrible planning (should I say lack of planning), I feel bad for police and first responders who indeed need to be able to access these roads in a hurry. There is not much room to properly get over or space needed to evacuate if ever needed.
