Special to Iredell Free News
Do you know an Iredell County resident who volunteers their time and efforts consistently? Someone who gives tirelessly of themselves to help others in our community?
If so, now is your opportunity to nominate these exceptional volunteers for the 2024 North Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Service Award. Nominating these outstanding community members is a great way to show how much their volunteer service is appreciated in our community.
The awards program, created by the Office of the Governor in 1979, recognizes North Carolina’s most dedicated volunteers. Through the years, the award has been bestowed upon thousands of North Carolinians who have shown concern and compassion for their neighbors by volunteering in their local community.
The Governor’s Volunteer Service Award honors the true spirit of volunteerism by recognizing individuals, groups, and businesses that significantly contribute to their community through volunteer service.
Any person, group, or entity from the public, non-profit and private sectors can be nominated for an award. There are categories for the types of nominees (senior, youth, faith-based, family, group, business, etc.). Additional categories are based on the area of service (animal, environmental, disaster, youth, preservation, etc.).
The United Way of Iredell County is the designated office for receiving all volunteer nominations for the 2024 cycle. Fill out a nomination form and provide references supporting their nominees and submit them to Linda Wahlberg by email at lwahlberg@uwirdell.org.
An awards committee will then review all qualified nominations and will choose up to 10 volunteers who will be selected for submission to the Governor’s office for consideration. All nominations must be submitted or post-dated no later than January 26, 2024, to be considered by the United Way of Iredell County’s award committee.
The selected award recipients will be honored at a Volunteer Recognition Event later this year, where the United Way will celebrate their achievements and express our gratitude for their unwavering support to our community.
