Local government and business leaders joined Weinig Holz-Her officials on Wednesday to celebrate the grand opening of the company’s newest facility in Iredell County.
The company will lease 150,000 square feet of space at the new Statesville Commerce Center, located at 146 E. Barkley Road in Statesville. This expansion will create 43 new jobs.
Headquartered in Germany with U.S. headquarters in Mooresville, Weinig Holz-Her is the world’s largest manufacturer of machines and systems for processing solid wood and derived timber products.
The company has been operational in the U.S. since 1974 and initially established its operations in Statesville. Business has continued to flourish with plans to expand its presence in Iredell County in both fabrication and CNC design manufacturing, company officials said.
“Weinig has steadily grown and strongly invested in our product portfolio. The opening of the Statesville campus marks another significant milestone in our strong investment in automation and construction wood to better serve the customers and markets in North America,” Weinig Group CEO Gregor Baumbusch said.
“Being able to fabricate world-class material handling equipment in Statesville is a game-changer and supports our current trajectory of growth,” added Christian Smedberg, director of Sales at Weinig Holz-Her USA. “We are excited to better support large wood processing production facilities throughout the country with state-of-the-art automation, and this expansion allows us to do so.”
Statesville Mayor Costi Kutteh and Iredell County Board of Commissioners Chair Melissa Neader were on hand Wednesday to officially welcome the manufacturer to the community.
“Their decision to grow here emphasizes the strength of our local workforce and the strategic advantage Statesville offers to global businesses,” Kutteh said. “This investment not only brings quality jobs but also reinforces our commitment to fostering economic development and innovation in the region.”
“Weinig Holz-Her’s expansion in Statesville is a great example of how Iredell County has been able to cultivate new investment and help create new jobs for our residents by partnering with local government and state partners,” Neader added. “We are so pleased to see industries like this locate in Iredell County and continue to grow in Iredell County.”
Iredell County commissioners and the Statesville City Council both approved incentive grants in accordance with their respective policies based on an investment of $4.3 million and the creation of new jobs.
Other partners involved in the project include the Economic Partnership of North Carolina, Iredell County Economic Development Corporation, Mitchell Community College, North Carolina Community College System, Williams Development Group, Landmark Building Company, and Colliers International.
