Iredell-Statesville Schools will host a Student Career Fair on Wednesday, March 19, at the Statesville Civic Center.
“This event will bring together approximately 500 graduating seniors, eager to explore employment opportunities as they prepare to complete their studies in May 2025,” said organizer and I-SS Executive Director of Industry, Trade and Business Development Todd Williams.
The annual event provides an opportunity for students to connect with future employers.
The free event will be open to the general public in the afternoon. I-SS students will attend from approximately 9 until 11:30 a.m. and the general public and all Mitchell Community College students from 12 noon until 2 p.m.
The event is hosted by the I-SS Career Technical Education program, in partnership with the Iredell County Economic Development Corporation and the Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce.
About 76 business partners have signed up to share information about career opportunities and potentially interview prospective students in the Iredell County area.
“Students are asked to look professional — dress the part — and come with their resumes in hand. These employers are ready to put them to work when they graduate in June,” Williams said.
Williams said that applicants can potentially be hired on-the-spot after going through the proper process. It’s also important for students to keep in mind what an employer is looking for when hiring someone.
“They are looking for someone who will show up for work, show up on time, put away their cell phones, get along with others and pass a drug test. If you can do those five things, you are hired,” Williams said. “Many of these companies have opportunities for advancement.”
The event will also show students that they don’t have to leave the county to find a high-paying job.
I-SS will provide bus transportation for students. Last year’s event had many success stories, particularly for students looking to begin a career in the medical field.
“I’m very appreciative to the employers who are participating in our event. At the end of the day, we are trying to get people into jobs and careers,” Williams said. “These kids are our future workforce.”
Students that visit five employers and complete other signup requirements will be entered into a giveaway for a pair of AirPods, which will be donated by Iredell Economic Development Corporation.
Employers at the event range from healthcare, welding, construction, lawn and garden, local government and many more.
