The City of Statesville is excited to announce the return of its 23rd Annual Arbor Day Celebration, now incorporating Earth Day, on Saturday, April 12.

The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be held at the Statesville Soccer Complex, located at 2012 Simonton Road. This free community event is a day of fun, education, and environmental appreciation for all ages.

Arbor Day holds special significance for the City of Statesville, symbolizing a commitment to preserving and expanding its urban tree canopy. The city’s dedication to tree conservation has earned it recognition as a Tree City USA for over 30 years, a designation awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation. With the addition of Earth Day celebrations, the event will further highlight the importance of environmental responsibility and sustainability in the community.

One of the highlights of this year’s event is the Tree City USA Award Presentation by the N.C. Forestry Service. If he hasn’t been pulled away to assist with wildfire prevention efforts, Smokey Bear will be in attendance to help celebrate and remind everyone of the importance of forest conservation.

This year’s celebration will feature exciting activities for all ages, including:

♦ Tree Giveaways – Pick up a free tree sapling to plant in your community and contribute to Statesville’s beautification efforts.

♦ Children’s Activities – Kids can enjoy sustainability-themed activities, inflatables, and an interactive Mobile Laser Tag experience.

♦ Touch-A-Truck Experience – Children can explore fire trucks, police vehicles, recycling trucks, heavy equipment, and more from the City of Statesville’s fleet. They will have the chance to sit in the driver’s seat, try on gear, and learn about how these vehicles serve the community.

♦ Tree Specialists Demonstrations – Experience live tree climbing demos and learn about deep root feeding techniques to keep trees healthy.

♦ Earth Day Awareness – Learn about eco-friendly practices, sustainability, and conservation efforts through interactive exhibits and educational opportunities.

♦ Free Fun-K (1 Mile Run/Walk) – Start the day on an active note. The Fun-K kicks off at 10 a.m. from the Oak Shelter at the Soccer Complex. Runners, walkers, families with strollers, and even furry friends are welcome. Pre-register online at www.statesvillenc.net under the Arbor Day quick link.

♦ Local Food Trucks – Enjoy a variety of food and refreshments from local vendors.

Additional activities and vendors will be on-site, making this a must-attend event for families, nature lovers, and environmental enthusiasts.

The Arbor Day Celebration has been a cornerstone event for the city, highlighting the significance of tree conservation, environmental stewardship, and community unity. In 2022, Statesville marked its 30th year as a Tree City USA, and the tradition continues with efforts to educate and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.

Do not miss this fun-filled day dedicated to celebrating nature, sustainability, and community spirit. Mark your calendars and join us on April 12 at the Statesville Soccer Complex.
