Citing personal reasons, an Iredell County District Court judge has resigned his seat on the bench less than four months after being re-elected to a four-year term.

Bryan A. Corbett resigned his position on Friday, March 7, according to local judicial officials.
Chief District Court Judge Edward Hedrick IV notified members of the local bar that Corbett had submitted his resignation.
“I enjoyed working with Judge Corbett and always observed him to have a strong work ethic and a desire to be fair to those who appeared before him,” Hedrick wrote in a message to local attorneys. “When he informed me of his decision, he cited personal reasons about which he did not elaborate. I respect his decision and his privacy.”
After winning a contested Republican Party primary for a new District Court judgeship in March of 2020, Corbett was unopposed in the 2020 and 2024 general elections.
Prior to being elected in 2020, Corbett was the managing partner of Harbinson, Brzykcy & Corbett, Attorneys at Law, LLP with offices in Alexander and Iredell counties. An Iredell County native and graduate of Western Carolina University, he graduated magna cum laude from the Charlotte School of Law in 2015.
