The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has once again awarded accreditation to Iredell Memorial Hospital’s main laboratory in Statesville based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs.
Recognized for rigorous and robust standards, CAP accreditation elevates quality and mitigates risk, an important way that laboratories can contribute to improved patient outcomes.
Iredell Memorial Hospital is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.
“I am not surprised that our lab has received CAP reaccreditation,” said the facility’s chief pathologist and medical director, Dr. Asha C. Sigei. “Our highly trained team, which includes certified, skilled phlebotomists and American Society for Clinical Pathologists-certified medical technologists and technicians, has always strived to adhere and maintain thousands of detailed laboratory standards, procedure and policies. I am also grateful for the continuous support that the hospital administration has always offered us, including ensuring we have state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. Kudos to the entire team.”
Leadership shared their sentiments on learning of the laboratory’s accreditation.
“The Laboratory team at Iredell Health System has always strived to meet or surpass the highest standard of quality and safety by the standards of the College of American Pathologists. I am honored and grateful to be a part of such a great team of people, including our pathologist, medical technologist, medical technicians, histologist, phlebotomist, and specimen processors. Our laboratory is always collaboratively supported by a great administration and management team,” said Laboratory Director Mark Berry.
“Our lab has successfully achieved CAP reaccreditation, thanks to the dedication and expertise of our incredible lab staff. Their hard work ensures we maintain the highest standards of quality and patient care,” said Joshua Self, vice president of operations.
During the CAP accreditation process, which is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and records, and overall management. These reviews help verify that activities reflect the best practices.
