Special to IFN
Iredell Physician Network is excited to welcome Dr. Harlan Hicks to Iredell Internal Medicine.
Hicks has over 25 years of experience in a variety of medical discourses and has lived and served in the local community since 2001.
He completed his undergraduate degree at Tuskegee University in Alabama, his medical degree at the University of Virginia, and his internship and residency at Medical College of Pennsylvania, where he served as chief resident in his final year. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Hicks’ approach to patient care focuses on partnership.
“I chose internal medicine because it allows me to care for patients across a longer period of their life and develop a better relationship with them,” said Hicks. “I meet the patient where they are and, together, guide them where they need to go.”
Hicks helps his patients set goals for themselves while under his care.
“The first visit with me is a time for you to share who you are and your goals. Goals vary based on individual needs, but one common one is to be patient and consistent to achieve good health.”
An advocate for wellness, Hicks encourages his patients to take responsibility for their health.
“Never over-indulge. Being healthy should be viewed as a way to prolong life,” he said.
Hicks chose Iredell Health System because of its willingness to facilitate collaborative healthcare.
Outside of medicine, Hicks enjoys exercising, riding bikes, riding motorcycles with his friends, and traveling to see family and friends and visit new places. He organizes yearly outreach through his church and civic organizations for men’s health, breast cancer awareness, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

Good to see you back Dr Hicks! As a nearly retired Iredell Memorial Hospital hospitalist, I still have patients talk about what an excellent doctor you were and how they miss you. Iredell County has a good doc returning! Dr. Pence
