Lake Norman State Park is accepting applications for General Utility Workers, Fee Collectors, Lifeguards, and Park Techs. The positions range from three months to 11 months in length, 40 hours a week.

Open Positions

General Utility Worker: $15/hour

These employees are generally responsible for facility and grounds maintenance. This includes cleaning bathrooms, picking up litter, emptying trash cans, mowing, and trimming grass, trail maintenance, and assisting park staff in other park projects. This position will be working closely with the maintenance staff but should be able to work unsupervised. In this position you will be required to drive a park vehicle, so you must be 18 years old or older and have a valid driver’s license.

Visitors Center Fee Collector: $15/hour

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: courteously serving the public, keeping accurate inventory of rentals, keeping accurate track of money and sales, and completing end-of-day paperwork and inventories. Positions are also responsible for cleaning public restrooms, picking up litter, emptying garbage cans, and notifying rangers of emergencies and rule violations in their assigned area. Work is mainly indoors but will have some outdoor duties and includes exposure to heat, humidity, rain, insects, and other environmental conditions. Many of these positions start in May and run into September, but a few fee collectors will start earlier in the spring and stay later into the fall.

Swim Beach Fee Collector: $15/hour & Bathhouse Manager: $17/hour

This position is responsible for fee collection at the Swim Beach. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: courteously serving the public, keeping accurate inventory of snacks/drinks, keeping accurate track of money and sales, and completing end-of-day paperwork and inventories. Positions are also responsible for cleaning public restrooms, picking up litter, emptying garbage cans, and notifying rangers of emergencies and rule violations in the Swim Beach areas. Work is outdoors and includes exposure to heat, humidity, rain, insects, and other environmental conditions. Position starts in May and runs into September. The Bathhouse Manager, in addition to above duties, assists the Ranger in general supervision of other Fee Collectors.

Lifeguard: $17/hr & Chief Lifeguard: $19/hour

Lifeguards are held responsible for, but not limited to, the proper operation of the swim beach area and for effectively working with the other lifeguards to ensure duties are carried out properly, promptly, and courteously. It is the lifeguard’s responsibility to ensure a safe environment in and out of the water for all park visitors. Also, the lifeguards are responsible for assisting with sales of concessions; cleaning the bath house, beach picnic area, and beach area facilities; and grounds maintenance in the vicinity of the swimming beach. Must hold current Lifeguard certification. Work is outdoors and includes exposure to heat, humidity, rain, insects, and other environmental conditions. This position starts in May and runs into September. The Chief Lifeguard, in addition to above duties, assists the Ranger in general supervision of other Lifeguards.

Park Tech: $17/hour

These employees are responsible with developing and leading environmental education programs, assisting with natural resources management projects, providing information and direction to park visitors, selling concessions, issuing camping permits, assisting with any park maintenance/improvement projects, and cleaning park facilities. This position will work closely with the park rangers; weekend, holiday, and evening shifts are required. This position is 6 months in length, 40 hours a week.
