Nelsob failed to adequately reduce speed, which caused the collision, troopers said. and collided with a southbound 2011 Volvo semi-truck without a trailer. This collision caused the semi-truck to collide with a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe.
The driver of the Volvo, Dennis Scott Bolding, 48, of Statesville received minor injuries. The driver of the Tahoe was not injured.
The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing factor in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately three hours.
