A Mooresville man was fatally injured in a crash on Interstate 77 early Tuesday morning.
According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, Justyn Jack Jenkins, 26, died after his disabled vehicle, a 2021 Hyundai Kona, was hit by a tractor-trailer about 3 a.m. near mile marker 30.
Jenkins’ vehicle was sitting sideways in the southbound lane of I-77 with no lights on following an earlier collision when it was struck by a 2019 Freightliner driven by Hartford Leon Cunningham, 58, of Charlotte, troopers said in a news release.
Cunningham was not injured.
The NCSHP said that the initial investigation indicates that speed and impairment were not contributing factors in the collision. During the investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately three hours.
No charges will be filed in this case, according to the NCSHP.
