The Special Olympics of Iredell County kicked off the Annual Spring Games at Statesville High School on Tuesday morning.

After the opening ceremony, which included Statesville Police Department Officers, carrying the torch, about 100 elementary and middle school students participated in a number of competitions. In addition to races, long jumps, and throwing, there was parachute play and other activities.

Older Special Olympians will compete on Wednesday morning.
