Special to IFN

The Rotary Club of Greater Statesville recently held its largest fundraiser to support local charities. The event also celebrated the club’s 50th Anniversary. The Reverse Raffle Fundraiser was held at the Statesville Civic Center with close to 500 in attendance. Attendees enjoyed food provided by JD’s Deli and live music, games and a silent auction.

Special recognition was given to three founding members who are still active in the club. Those members are Bill Wilson, Dr. Curtis Abell and Mark Wagner.

Flow Automotive of Statesville was the main sponsor for the event, which raised $50,000. In addition, the winner of the $10,000.00 Reverse Raffle prize donated $7,500 to the local charities and $2,500 to several families fighting cancer.

Four local charities were recipients of the proceeds, along with Samaritan’s Purse receiving $7,500 for Hurricane Helene relief. Boys & Girls Clubs of the Piedmont received $20,000, Power Cross, Fifth Street Ministries and Pregnancy Resource Center (now Crossroads Care Clinic), each received $10,000.

The Rotary Club of Greater Statesville meets on Thursdays at 12 noon at Twisted Oak. The Club welcomes anyone to attend a club meeting to learn more about Rotary and its service to the community.
