Special to IFN
Vegfest Expos promises a day of fun, food, and festivities to celebrate a cruelty-free lifestyle, a cleaner environment, and a healthier planet in Statesville on Sunday, March 2.
Vegfest Expos Statesville will take place — rain or shine — from 12 to 4 p.m. inside the Statesville Civic Center, located at 300 S Center Street. Food trucks will be set up outside by the main entrance.
The goal of the event is to educate the public about the benefits of adopting plant-based choices and to promote vegan-friendly businesses and organizations’ resources in the Statesville area and beyond. This event is produced by the group behind Vegfest Expos and Triangle Vegfest, a 501(c)3 nonprofit based out of Wake Forest.
“Having a festival in Statesville is a first for us,” Vegfest Expos Executive Director Helene Greenberg said. “The city is centrally located from WNC, Charlotte, and the Triad, and the Statesville Civic Center is a perfect venue for our event.”
Festival-goers will have the opportunity to enjoy plant-based culinary delights, samples, and giveaways from vendors such as A Peace of Soul Food Truck from Columbia, S.C., and Imagine Vegan Cafe out of Memphis, Tenn. A DJ will be spinning the tunes and children can get their faces painted for free and all can take a spin on the 360 photo booth by Over the Top Entertainment.
A variety of vendors will bring animal-friendly wellness and beauty products, apparel, health services, educational resources, and more. An up-to-date vendor live map can be found on the event Facebook page or our vegfestexpos.com.
Educational speakers will be presenting about various topics; travel, health, a cooking demo, and more. James Loomis, MD and Caryn Dugan of The Doc and Chef, plus Kathy Hester and Cheryl Purser of The Plant Based Explorers, and Thomas Goodman of Plant Dining Partnerships are among those who have committed to the event.
Admission is free with a suggested donation of $5 to $10.
The brand new Vegfest Experience, which is available for $50, offers an opportunity to relax in a dedicated room with samples, dining tables, and includes a reusable bag with coupons, as well as early entry into the festival. A compostable swag bag filled with coupons and samples is available for $15. Water, provided by Vital Flow Water Co. will be available for purchase ahead and at the festival. Help us reduce the amount of plastic by bringing your own bottle to fill for $3 or use our compostable cup for $5 and get unlimited alkaline water for the duration of the festival.
