The Statesville Woman’s Club recently held a New Member Induction Ceremony at the club’s historic clubhouse on West End Avenue.

During the special ceremony, the club’s nine new members were recognized. They are Denise Bair, Cara Brinkley, Karen Bryant, Julie Gibson, Jacquelyn Hannahs, Carmella Hoover, Brittany Jordaan, Jessica Keyes and Jeannie Petrosini.

After the welcome by Club President Dana White, Club Chaplin Kim Mulrey led a devotion about “Work, Choice, Share, Cooperation.” Members and guests then recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Salute to North Carolina Flag.

Club Past President and Membership Team member Joanna Gaither, Club President Dana White and NC 2nd Vice President/Membership Chairman and Charlotte Woman’s Club President Helen Ritchie spoke about the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and the connection to the state, district and local clubs.

After the presentation, new members were called forward to be recognized. Following a candlelight ceremony, each new member was “pinned,” presented a certificate and a red rose.

To conclude the meeting, the members recited “A Collect for Club Women” by Mary Stewart.

UPCOMING MEETINGS

Upcoming club meetings at the historic clubhouse located at 515 West End Avenue:

• Thursday, May 1: The monthly meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a time of social fellowship followed by the meeting at 6 p.m. The Arts and Culture Community Service Team will lead the meeting with guest speaker Isabella DiFiore of Bella’s Backpacks. The night’s project will be preparing backpacks to help support children at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center and in the community. Items needed for the backpacks include small stuffed animals, small blankets, journals, coloring books, colored pencils, individual tissue packets and hair brushes.

• Sunday, May 4: At 3 p.m., a “College Shower” for the Club’s Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship winner, North Iredell Senior Christopher J. Corona-Plancarte, will be held.

All members, guests and interested women are invited to attend these meetings.
