The Christian Mission has announced plans for the grand opening of its new building on May 1, marking a significant milestone in the nonprofit’s mission to serve families facing economic hardships.
“The new 27,000-square-foot facility will enhance our ability to provide wraparound services, ensuring that individuals and families have access to the resources they need to thrive,” said Executive Director Amy LaCount.
The building features four classrooms, a computer lab, a community room, a conference room, and private offices, creating a space designed to provide expanded educational opportunities, career support, and personalized case management to help clients move toward self-sufficiency.
To facilitate the transition to the new space, The Christian Mission will be closed from April 21-30 to allow time for packing and moving. During this period, the nonprofit will not be accepting donations of food, clothing, or household items.
Made possible through the generosity of donors and the dedication of volunteers, this new facility will allow The Christian Mission to expand its services, maintain a presence downtown, and strengthen collaborative efforts with NCWorks and the Iredell County Partnership for Young Children.
“The programming in our new building will now serve individuals from birth through senior adulthood, ensuring holistic, multi-generational support to help break the cycle of poverty,” Program Director Rochelle Dearman explained.
The new facility offers several advantages for our clients, including private offices for case managers to provide confidential, one-on-one support, ensuring dignity and personalized assistance. The computer lab and classroom space will serve as hubs for job training, financial literacy workshops, and other skill-building programs. The community room will foster connection through support groups, networking events, and collaborative workshops, strengthening relationships among clients and service providers.
Additionally, keeping a downtown presence ensures better access to services, public transportation, and key partner organizations, reducing barriers to essential resources. With a larger, well-organized space and a growing team of volunteers, services will be more efficient, reducing wait times and enhancing overall support for our clients.
With this growth comes an increased need for volunteers. The nonprofit is calling on community members ages 16 and up to serve at the food pantry, resource store, and warehouse. Youth under the age of 16 can volunteer with a parent.
“The Christian Mission is a place where everyone belongs. We can’t wait to serve the community with you!” Valerie Murdock, Volunteer Coordinator Valerie Murdock said,
The community is invited to an Open House on April 29! Drop by during one of two times 12 to p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
The address is 919 N. Main Street in Mooresville.
