Mooresville, NC – The Mooresville Graded School District community has raised $14,171 to date to assist Yancey County Schools with its recovery from Hurricane Helene.
MGSD adopted the district after the hurricane devastated Western North Carolina.
The funds raised by MGSD have been used to provide gifts for students during the holidays, ensure students can continue to go on field trips, and to support the Yancey County Schools’ initiative to build tiny homes.
“We are incredibly humbled and grateful for the overwhelming support shown by our community,” said MGSD Superintendent Jason Gardner. “This generosity demonstrates the true spirit of neighbor helping neighbor, and we are confident that these funds will make a significant difference in the lives of students and staff in Yancey County.”
Yancey County Schools Superintendent Kathy Amos said her community is “deeply grateful” for the generosity of MGSD and its families.
“Each day, we continue to navigate numerous challenges, from infrastructure and rebuilding efforts to instructional needs and the harsh winter weather. Despite these difficulties, your kindness and support give us hope as we work to overcome the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene,” Amos said. “Thank you for your thoughts, encouragement, and for keeping our incredible students in the mountains in your prayers.”
MGSD officials expressed their gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this effort.
For those who would like to contribute, MGSD will continue collecting funds for Yancey County Schools until January 31. People can donate online to help with field trips and tiny homes by visiting Mooresville Graded School District Online School Payments.
