Mr. Curtis Lee Mills, 84, of 930 Glade Street, Statesville, N.C., was born in Iredell County on May 2, 1935, and was the son of the late Wurdy James Mills and Cora Pauline Glaspy Mills. He departed this life on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at Gordon Hospice House following an extended illness.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Rosie Huntley Mills; brothers, Otha (Annie) James Mills, Franklin Nathaniel (Geraldine) Mills, and Willie Eugene Mills; sisters, Ada Vern Mills, Catherine Mills Carpenter, and Cora Effie Mills Fetterson; nephews, Scottice Blackmon and Otha James Mills Jr.; and a niece, Victoria Renee Mills Gyton.

He was a 1955 graduate of Unity High School and was a avid bowler and loved playing cards at Lewis’ Taxi stand. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish the memory of his life two sons, Daroun Lee Mills of Statesville and Anthony (Shelia) Allison of Charlotte; two daughters, Centonia Sommerville of Germantown, Md., and Mamie (Todd) Houston of Troutman, N.C.; his godson, Derwin Mathis of Statesville; a goddaughter, Ertha (George) Hoover of Statesville; a sister, Mary Estelle Mills (Sylvester) Huntley of Salisbury; grandchildren; Shashna Wilson, Mauricus Wilson, Milton (Stephanie) Sanders, Demeitric (Jasmine) Sanders, Kashana (Julius) Sanders Houston, Jasmine (Danielle) Houston, Christina Sommerville, and Marcus Sommerville; god grandchildren, Latrice Nicole Sharpe, Melissa Alexander, Laqueida Ravenell, Timothy Sharpe, Marcus (Shannon) Sharpe; sisters-in-law, Annie Mills Smith of Troutman, Geraldine Witherspoon Mills of Concord, Ann Chambers Mills of Troutman and Joann Huntley of Salisbury; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, the Antioch Baptist Church family, other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at 1 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church. Reverend David Leven is Pastor, Bishop Norris Mills will officiate and Pastor Valerie A. Mills will eulogize with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery.

Mr. Mills will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 11:30 a.m. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 12 until 1 p.m.
