Henry Wilson Jr., 81, of Mooresville, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2019, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.
He was born on April 4, 1938, in Sumter, S.C., to the late Henry and Lillian Reese Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he went on to become the first African-American wholesale distributor of air conditioning & refrigeration products. He owned and operated a 40-unit apartment complex in Philadelphia, Pa. He was very family-oriented and loved spending time with them and his grand dogs. He enjoyed music, playing cards, working, helping others, and family road trips.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Roy, Raymond and Robert Wilson; and sisters, Edith and Lillian.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rose Cuff Wilson; children, Patrice Tillison and husband Christopher, and Mortimer Banks; sisters, Ruth McCutchen and Willie Mae Johnson; and grandchildren, Brandi, Paige and Taylor Tillison.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 6, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a service following at 11 a.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Eddie Karriker officiating. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park.
