Lois Fahey Doty passed away peacefully on November 15, 2019. Born October 22, 1924, to Peter and Amie Fahey in Queens N.Y., Lois was preceded in death by her husband Fred, parents Peter and Amie, and sisters Amie and June. Lois is survived by her son, F. Lawrence (Larry) Doty and wife Alma of Sebastopol, Calif., daughter Ami Maples and husband Darrell of Bella Vista, Ark.; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie (Robert), Kristen (Steven) and Chris (Shannon) and 12 great-grandchildren.
Lois met her husband Fred while he was stationed at Brooklyn Naval Shipyard and their courtship revolved around dancing nightly to the big bands of the 1940’s. How they loved to dance. They married in 1945 and began the best years of their lives with the U.S. Navy. Astoria, N.Y., Bethesda, Md., Pacific Grove, Calif., and Naples, Calif., were their Naval homes until 1960, when they moved to Peekskill, N.Y. In 1978 they moved to Statesville.
Lois loved life. Those of us who knew her will always remember her as a hilarious red-headed Irish woman who loved books, travel, needlework, gardening, and opera. Most of all she loved her family.
Lois will be interred at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado, with her beloved Fred.
Our family would like to say thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County for the exceptional attention and care for our mom, during the final months of her life; a special thank you to mom’s nurse, Sandy, for her compassion.
