Ms. Rosemary Rector, 86, of Troutman, N.C., passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.
She was born September 19, 1933, in Little Rock, Ark., and was the daughter of the late Henry M. and Mary Elizabeth Rector. She was a graduate of Little Rock High School in Arkansas. After graduating from college, Ms. Rector taught elementary education for several years before moving to North Carolina to work in the elementary school at Barium Springs Home for Children. She went on to spend most of her career teaching fourth grade at Troutman Elementary. After her retirement, Ms. Rector taught several years at the Statesville Montessori School. She will be remembered by many, many students who were forever impacted by her teaching.
She was a very active member of Forest Park Presbyterian Church, where she taught the Sue Curlee Sunday School Class for many years and was an elder for over 30 years. She served many years as a volunteer at Davis Regional Medical Center as a Sunshine volunteer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Beatrice Ursery, as well as three brothers, one sister and lifelong friend, Mary Ruth Godfrey. She is survived by her dear friend, Nell Shull, several nieces and nephews, three sisters-in-law, her beloved students, friends and church family.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at Forest Park Presbyterian Church with Rev. Scott Jeffreys officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Little Rock, Ark.
