Harry Withers Myers Jr., 87, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Friday, February 7, 2020.
Born in Danville, Va., on December 26, 1932, he was the son of the late Harry Withers Myers, Sr. and Minnie Morris Myers.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Setliff Myers, who passed away July 24, 2011, and also his son, Harry “Bunny” Withers Myers III, who passed away on February 7, 2014.
Mr. Myers served in the United States Army Reserve Command (USARC). He was colonel of the 108th Training Command in Charlotte, N.C.
He graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in Poultry Science. He worked as an Extension Agent with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and was a poultry and beef cattle farmer.
Mr. Myers was very instrumental in developing poultry practices in the United States and others countries. He was extremely involved with his community. A lifelong member of the North Iredell High School Boosters Athletic Club, he helped establish the ICYAA and other activities. A member of New Salem United Methodist Church since 1964, he served in various roles including the building committee.
Harry was well respected and loved, and will be missed by all that knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Diane Myers-Miller (Jeff) of Walpole, N.H., Elaine Myers Batuyios (Bill) of Wilmington, N.C., Karen Cranfill (Steve) of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Georgia Simonson (David) of Statesville, and daughter-in-law, Dena Myers.
He is further survived by fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one due in April; a close friend, Martha Minish, and long-time employee and farm manager, Rodney Stevenson.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 14, 2020, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11 a.m. at New Salem United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Franklin officiating.
