Hugh Coles Barker, 78, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at Gordon Hospice House after an extended illness.

He was born on Friday, May 16, 1941, in Iredell County to the late Bristol Coles Barker and Flora Lee Harrington Barker. He worked in furniture, construction, and also as a horse trainer. He was member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and the N.C. Quarter Horse Association.

In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by, one brother, Jerry Ned Barker; and two sisters, Mary Evelyn Barker Herman and Carolyn Barker.

Hugh is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Riddle Barker of the home; one daughter, Cindy Barker Cascaddon (Tony) of Statesville; two grandchildren, Dusty Wilson (Jennifer), Calif., and Kryssy Hensley (Brian) of Virginia; two step granddaughters, April Cascaddon of Catawba and Katie Cascaddon of S.C.; and six great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. The Rev. Brian Eades and Rev. Joey Campbell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church.
