James Edwin Gilstrap passed away on May 14, 2020 in Mooresville, N.C., at the age of 83.
James is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth R. Gilstrap; son, Edwin L. Gilstrap; daughter, Teresa G. Johnson and husband Dwain; sister, Cornelia Stewart; granddaughter, Christina Johnson and husband Philip; granddaughter, Elizabeth Johnson; grandson, Mark Johnson; grandson, Tyler Marshall; and three great-grandchildren.
James was predeceased by his first wife, Neal M. Gilstrap; father, J.B. Gilstrap; mother, Ruby P. Gilstrap; and daughter, Patsy G. Marshall.
James was born in Easley, S.C., on March 4, 1937. He had three beautiful children and married Elizabeth Gilstrap on August 18, 1979. As a young man, he proudly served five years in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed in the textile industry and retired from a long career with Duke Energy. He had an immense love of sports and was a committed fan of Clemson Tigers athletics. He also enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycle riding, having taken several cross-country trips over the years. Family vacations to Holden Beach, N.C., were one of James’ favorite activities. He spent many of his days working in his garden, tending to the yard, attending sporting events, and enjoying family and friends. James will be remembered for his sage advice, friendly manner, generous spirit, and his unwavering dedication to the things he believed in.
A private graveside service will be held at Gethsemane Gardens in Charlotte.
