Kay Lewis, 65, of Denver, N.C., passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at Atrium Health Medical Center in Charlotte.
She was born on February 18, 1955, in Mooresville, N.C., to the late Wilbur and Ruby “Inez” Grant Lewis. Kay retired from the N.C. Department of Corrections in 2010. She received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award from the Governor of North Carolina in recognition of her 32 years of service.
She was a very active member of Fairfield United Methodist Church in Denver, where she sang in the choir, was a chairman of the worship committee for many years, and she was always serving meals for ones in need. She also volunteered with the Meals on Wheels Program in Lincoln County.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert Guy Lewis; daughter, Katelyn Taylor Lewis; and her little buddy her dachshund, Norman.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 17, from 6 to 7 p.m. with a Celebration of Life following outdoors at 7 p.m. at Fairfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Billy Towery officiating. The family ask everyone who attends to dress comfortably.
