Marty Franklin Childers, 53, of Cleveland, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 7, 2020, at his residence.

He was born on January 3, 1967, in Iredell County, to the late Cecil and Emma Jean Perry Childers. Marty enjoyed farming and having a vegetable garden, racing and football. His main hobbies were working on classic cars and eating Little Debbie’s while sitting in his favorite chair. His grandson, Dex, was the light of his world.

Marty was married to his loving wife, Susan Dorton Childers, who also passed away the same day.

He is survived by his son, Josh Childers (Sarah); daughter, Anna Childers Rehn (Aaron); stepsons, Matthew and James Davis (Hannah Wellmon); and his beloved grandson, Dex Rehn. He is also survived by his aunt, Patsy Belk; uncle, Jack Childers; and many beloved cousins and friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2020, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at Triplett United Methodist Church with Pastor David Childers officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
