Mattie Chester Christenberry, 90, of Pine Street, Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Friday, January 17, 2020, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville. Born June 11, 1929, in Lexington, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Walter Lee Chester and Ola Bright Chester.

Mrs. Christenberry was a retired salesperson for Belk Department Store in Mooresville. She was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Mooresville.

Mrs. Christenberry was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, John Pinkney “JP” Christenberry Jr.; brothers, Jack and Lee Chester; and sister, Ann Cline.

She is survived by her children, John D. Christenberry and wife Bonnie, Rick Christenberry and wife Terry, and Leigh Anne Overcash and husband Howard; sister, Linda Crump; brother, George Mack Chester; grandchildren, Stephanie Smith and husband Marty, Heather Christenberry, and Daisy Wilson and husband Ryan, and Tria Daniels; and great granddaughters, Emma Smith, Hayley Christenberry and Laynee Mae Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2020, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Sowell and Mitchell Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
