Norma Jean Lee Hellard, 85, of Statesville, N.C., died Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born in Hunt County, ,on December 20, 1934, to the late Noel Newton Lee and Ila Evylena Thomas Lee.

Norma was a retired schoolteacher and was one of the first teachers at Statesville Christian School. She was a member of Front Street Baptist Church, where she enjoyed being in the Senior Adult Choir and the Young at Heart Club. She also enjoyed shopping.

Those left to cherish her memory are a son, Rev. Rodney Hellard (Janet) of Advance, N.C.; a brother, Noel Lee (Dorothy) of Texas; Becky Buyers (Tom) of Texas; grandchildren, Justin Hellard (Holly) of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Brad Hellard (Michelle) of Holly Springs, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Jackson Hellard, Ashtyn Hellard, and Paisley Hellard; and special friends, Judy and Bob Harwell of Statesville.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, December 7, 2020, at 2 p.m. at the Stony Point Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Tim Stutts officiating. Mrs. Hellard will lie in state at Nicholson Funeral Home on Sunday, December 6, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
