Bobbie Vanderford Barkley, 85, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away Saturday evening, November 13, 2021, at her home.
Bobbie was born in Iredell County, N.C., on, July 19, 1936, to the late Thomas Grady Vanderford and Merriell Hawks Vanderford of Mooresville. She married Jesse Lee “Terp” Barkley on January 6, 1956. Her husband of 53 years proceeded her in death on August 2, 2008. Bobbie was also preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Grady “Buddy” Vanderford Jr.
Bobbie is currently survived by two daughters, Lynne Barkley Hawkins and her husband Michael Hawkins of Charlotte, and Kathy Renee Barkley of Mooresville; and a son, Jesse Lee Barkley Jr. and his wife Terry Barkley, also of Mooresville. In addition, Bobbie has seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Bobbie was a 1954 graduate of Mooresville Senior High School. After finishing high school, Bobbie attended High Point College, where she majored in English. After college Bobbie entered the work force where she pursued a career with the Ground Water Division, N.C. Natural Resources, retiring after 26 years as the office Administrative Manager.
Bobbie loved spending as much time as possible at the beach. She was an avid shell collector and often made beautiful shell gifts to share with her family.
Reverend Nathan Finsil will officiate Bobbie’s graveside service, which will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Fair View United Methodist Church, 1430 Mecklenburg Highway, Mooresville, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fair View United Methodist Church or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Lake Norman.
