Mr. Donnie Walter Grimes Sr., who affectionately called “Old Skool”, was born in Iredell County on November 27, 1959, and was the son of the late Bobby and Virginia Torrence Grimes. He passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at his residence at the age of 61.

Educated in the public schools of Iredell County, Mr. Grimes we a self-employed mechanic and at one time he worked for the City of Statesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sudie Grimes, and a brother, Lonnie Grimes.

He leaves precious and loving memories to his children, Sunday Parks, Donnie (Samantha) Grimes Jr., and Lakisha McMillian, all of Statesville; his sister, Barbara Gray and Ellen (Charlie) Scott, both of Statesville; his brother, Ronnie (Ethel) Grimes of Statesville; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Rev. Winfred Giffin will officiate and Ashley Stovall will eulogize. Members of the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 until 11 a.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
