Mr. Franklin Fitzgerald Sloan, affectionately called “Blue,” departed this life on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at Atrium Health. He was born on November 11, 1963, and was the son of the late Franklin Little and Virginia Sloan Bates. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an uncle, Ivory Houston, who raised him, and a nephew, Cedric Sloan.
He attended schools in Alexandria, Va., and worked as a Construction Worker and a roofer. His hobbies included watching football, being outdoors fishing and also dancing.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, one son, Gavin Simms of Alexandria, Virginia; five daughters, Takia Nelson of Woodbridge, Va., Jerrica Hardy of Alexandria, Va., Kiara Simms of Stafford, Va., Jessica Hardy of Washington, D.C., and Jakeya Hardy of Temple Hill, Md.; one brother, Rodney Sloan of Mooresville; four sisters, Karen (Dr. Charles) Simpson of Mooresville, Teresa Sloan of Mooresville, Sherry Sloan of Laurel, Md., and Tarhonda Sloan of Laurel, Md.; grandchildren, J.R. Nelson, Jeremiah Nelson, Lyric Nelson, Dajan Talbert, Za’kai Simms, Gavynn Simms, Kali Simms, Myracle Nelson and Kennedi Ferguson; a special niece, Ciera Sloan; a special nephew, Eric Sloan; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Sunday, October 24, 2021, at 12 noon at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Charles Simpson will officiate, and burial will follow in the Belmont Cemetery in Statesville, N.C. Members of the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until 12 noon.
