Glenn Smith Hedrick, 89, of Statesville, passed away on Friday, Nov 12 at his home with his daughter by his side.
Mr. Hedrick was born in Alexander County on Sept 5, 1932 and was the son of the late Horace and Bertha Campbell Hedrick. He attended schools in Alexander and Iredell County and on April 4, 1953 he married Nellie McFalls Hedrick and together they shared 62 years of marriage before her passing in 2016.
Mr. Hedrick along with his wife Nellie were owners/operators of both Cline’s In-Town Motel and Modern Cleaners for many years. He was a member of Eufola Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and choir director.
Mr. Hedrick loved gospel music and loved traveling. That combination allowed for him and Nellie to travel to live gospel music events. He was a man that never met a stranger. He could be found most mornings gathered around a table eating breakfast at Friendly Family restaurant with friends. It was nothing for people to stop either when they came into or leaving the restaurant to speak with Mr. Hedrick.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four siblings and son-in-law, Niles Newsome.
Left to cherish the memory of Glenn Hedrick is his daughter, Wanda H. Newsome, two grandsons, Derek Overcash (Robin) and Brian Overcash (Ashley) along with five great-grandchildren, Hayden, Ethan, Emily, Cody, and Dylan.
A graveside funeral service honoring the life of Glenn Hedrick will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday, Nov 18 in Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Terry Tucker officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday evening from 6 PM until 8 PM at the home of Glenn Hedrick.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/donate.
