Mr. Isom Heard of Statesville, N.C., was born born in Calhoun Falls, S.C. on March 24, 1924, and was the son of the late Garrison Lee and Lula Napolean Heard. He departed this life on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at The Gordon Hospice House in Statesville following an extended illness.
He attended Schools in Calhoun Falls, S.C., and prior to his retirement was employed by the Department of Defense for over thirty years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward Heard; four brothers, J. W. Heard, Pressley Heard, Moses Dubose, and Hardon Lee; three sisters, Mildred Johnson, Eliza Bishop and Annie Florence Hood.
He leaves to celebrate the memory of his life his son, Lionel (Tonja) Heard of Capital Heights, Md.; one brother, Willie Heard of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Panella L. Calhoun of Statesville and Margaret Crushfield of Philadelphia, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Angela, Michelle, Kyera, Kendra, Lionel, Kawanna, Trevin and Teiara; thirteen great grandchildren; his special caregivers, Shelby (Pam) Misher, Diane Bingham and Jimmy Moore; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Thursday, February 11, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Reverend Isaac Pettis will officiate and burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Park.
There will be no public visitation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home, along with other funeral homes across the country, has been issued a mandate to limit the number of family and/or friends at funeral services.
