JoAnn Hartness Scarborough went to be with her brothers and sisters on May 16, 2021.
She was one of 10 children born to Willy and Eloise Hartness on September 2, 1936. She grew up in the Snow Creek Community and was a lifelong resident of Iredell County. She was a quiet and caring person, who enjoyed sharing good times with friends and family. Her husband, Don Scarborough, preceded her in death. She is survived by her life partner, Jack Jurney of Troutman, N.C., along with her daughters, Gail Batten and husband Dave of Hampstead, N.C., Gretchen Land of Durham, N.C., Laura Brewner and husband Scott of Durham, N.C.; and her grandchildren, Davis and Brett Batten and Jessica and Jamison Land. She is also survived by her sister, Lorene Reavis, of Columbus, Ga., as well as many nieces and nephews. She will also be lovingly remembered by Lt. Gen. William Jurney and his wife Sue and their children, Troy and Madison.
Graveside service will be held Sunday, May 23, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Sandy Ridge United Methodist Church in Statesville, N.C.
The family wishes to thank the SECU Jim and Betsy Bryan Hospice House for their caring and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Iredell Senior Center or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
