Joy Linette Mayes Silber, 46, of Wake Forest, N.C., passed away peacefully on Monday, April 26, 2021, surrounded by her family.
Joy was the one who lit up the room, the best host and the one who planned the parties and especially the extravagant Thanksgiving meals. Joy never met a stranger and had a gift for making connections with people. Joy loved people and people loved Joy. She was a super proud mom who was always happy to share her children’s accomplishments, whether it be sports or academics.
Joy was born in Iredell County, N.C., to James “Wayne” Mayes and Joyce Johnson Mayes. Joy later attended and received her B.S. of Poultry Science from N.C. State University. She was an active member of International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and a Charter of “CERES” Women’s Agricultural Fraternity Constitution.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Chaz” Silber.
In addition to her parents, Joy is survived by her son, Owen Silber; daughter, Rileigh Silber; sister, Jenny Cline (Chris); brother, Jimmy Mayes (Crystal); sister, Jill Hinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at New Salem United Methodist Church with Todd McCullough officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to International Order of the Rainbow for Girls for a scholarship in memory of Joy Silber at Attn. Kay Letterman, 2230 Whitman, Raleigh, NC 27607 or New Salem United Methodist Church at 155 New Salem Road, Statesville, NC 28625.

Joy was a very sweet young lady. Remember our days in girl scouting. She was a joy to be around and I was honored to be leader. Blessings to the family.
