Katharine E. (Free) Smith, 87, of Limerick, Pa., passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Paoli Hospital on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.
She was born in Norristown, Pa., on December 4, 1933, the daughter of the late William and the late Laura (Lawson) Free.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Richard W. Smith, of Limerick, Pa. She is also survived by her daughter, Pamela (Charles) Dutill of West Chester, Pa.; son, Jeffrey (Maria) of Statesville, N.C.; and daughter, Kathy (Patrick) O’Hara of East Norriton, Pa.; as well as 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Baird, and a grandson, James Smith.
Kay lived in Limerick for the last 20 years. She previously lived in Plymouth Twp and Norristown, where she was born and raised.
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church of Limerick, Pa., where she was involved with St. James Women, Senior Fellowship and Bible Study.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star – Priscilla Chapter, Caring and Compassionate Clowning and the Red Hat Society.
She was a Homemaker, as well as a Unit Clerk in the Emergency Department and then a Quality Assurance Specialist, both with Suburban General Hospital.
Kay loved spending time with her family, sharing endless pictures of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing cards and dominoes with her friends, going out to eat, knitting and crocheting, and reading.
She leaves behind a legacy of a love for God, a love for people and a wealth of laughter and fond memories.
Interment will be private in George Washington Memorial Park.
