Mary Patricia Bolick Benfield, affectionately known as “Pat”, 71, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021, at her residence.
Born in Iredell County on January 16, 1949, she was preceded in death by her first husband Don Dillard, and her parents, James Dewey Bolick and Ruth Shook Bolick.
Pat attended Iredell County Schools and retired as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Those left to cherish her memory are her faithful husband of 30 years, Daniel Wayne Benfield II; son, Donley Dillard and wife Jean; and daughter, Shannon Blohm and husband Jerry. Pat also was blessed with four grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Ashton and Becca Dillard and Emily and Andy Cheshire. Her lifelong best friend and surviving brother, Jimmy Bolick and wife Brenda; and a special niece to her, Lori Deal and her family also survive.
Pat lived a pure and simple life quietly giving and serving those she loved most. Pat was an independent and unwavering strong woman that freely gave love and support to those in her life. Her Southern cooking and legendary holiday meals can never be forgotten. Pat took much pride working the family farm with both Dan and Jimmy. It was her lifelong home and joy. She worked tirelessly on her meticulous lawn and spotless home. Molley, her little gray dog, has been her loyal companion and source of much joy over the past ten years. We know this since Mom always prepared Molley her own plate at dinner each day.
Many friends and neighbors were touched by Pat, and she so enjoyed the fellowship and times spent with them. We will all miss her sense of humor and that special laugh she so often shared with us. Always faithful and hardworking, she didn’t need to say it in words but we were all inspired by her example. She faced many challenges in life yet, never giving up and always the mother who carried her family through.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
