Mrs. Nora Holland Smyre, 56, of Statesville, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born in Iredell County and was the daughter of Lillian Lorene Holland and the late Clyde Curtis White. She was married to John Fitzgerald Smyre, who survives. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by an infant brother; her father-in-law and her mother-in-law, Leonard Ted Smyre and Roberta P. Smyre; and a brother-in-law, George Sanford Smyre.

She was a graduate of North Iredell High School and also attended Wingate College. She was employed by Iredell-Statesville Schools and Arby’s. She enjoyed her family, life and many hobbies, including shopping, music, her annual cousins trip, the Riverhill community family and many other activities.

In addition to her husband John and her mother Lillian she leaves to cherish the memory of her life a son, Kevin Lamont Stackhouse of Statesville; a daughter, Alesia Anais Smyre of Charlotte; three brothers, Clyde Curtis White of Statesville, Vincent P. (LaChan) Holland of Troutman and Cedrick D. White of Statesville; two sisters, Teresa (William “Billy”) Shepherd of Atlanta, Ga., and Melissa L. White of Statesville; one grandchild, Micah A. Chambers of Statesville; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Billy Ray (Eunice) Smyre of Statesville; Terry (Betty Jo) Smyre of Charlotte, Juanita S. (John Henry) Connor of Statesville, Barbara Gail (John) Nicholson, Lisa Smith (Darrell) Smith, Roberta (Jimmy) Thompson, Lori (James) Lackey, and Mary Ann Smyre, all of Statesville; her aunts, Joann (Nathaniel) Dunlap, Dorothy White, Ruth Turner and Orian Holland; a special cousin, a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins, other relatives, the Chestnut Grove Church, the Riverhill Community, and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. Reverend Dale Gibson, Pastor will officiate and burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Mrs. Smyre will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 12 noon.

Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 until 1 p.m., but will assemble at 117 Imes Court, at other times.
