Mr. Perry Jarmayne “Mayne” Burke was born in Statesville, N.C., on October 15, 1982, to Perry Jerome Knox (Barbara) and Alicia Burke Rayton (Bishop). He departed this life on Wednesday, June 9, 2021.
Perry attended West Iredell High School and graduated in 2001. He played on the Varsity Football Team from his freshman to his senior year of high school. He was on the track team and was an awesome disc thrower and shot put athlete and broke the record at West Iredell in these sports. After high school, he attended Mitchell Community College and graduated in 2003. He’s a former teacher at Barium Springs in Troutman, N.C. He loved to sing and was also a member of the Iredell Warriors, a semi-pro football team. Perry was employed by Tyson Food Plant in Wilkesboro, N.C.
He was preceded in death by a son, P.J.; his maternal grandmother, Hazel Ann Burke; his maternal grandfather, Willie Lee Jones; his paternal grandfather, Eddie Lee Knox; two uncles, David Burke and Gary Gibbs; and a sister-in-law, Amanda Caldwell Carpenter.
He leaves to cherish the memory of his life his wife, Cherelle Carpenter Burke of the home; his sons, Kaleel Burke and Adien Burke, both of Statesville, and Grayson Burke of the home; his daughter, Faith Burke of the home; his godchildren, Taitiyanna, Zitavion, Arihanna, Deandre, Teremaih, Lydianna, and Ronald Jr.; his father, Perry Jerome (Barbara) Knox; his mother, Alicia Burke (Bishop) Rayton; his brother, Montel Burke of Statesville; his sisters, Latasha Rhodes of Statesville and Anyssa Teasley of Colorado; his step-brothers, Trey Simpson of Georgia and Brishireon Smith of Statesville; his step sisters, Karrissa Butler of Georgia; his godsisters and godbrothers, Deshawna Bradshaw, De’ijha Thomas and D’avion Thomas; his paternal grandmother, Linda Knox; his father-in-law, Billy Carpenter; his mother-in-law, Shirley Carpenter; his uncles, Rayford Burke, Willie (Jonathan) Burke, Tony Burke, Eddie (Wanda) Knox Jr., and Stacy Knox; his aunts, Barbara Bowman, Patsy Bowman, Christine (Gerald) Johnson, Frances (David) Knox Jones, Freida (Burley) Hunter, and Felicia Clyburn, all of Statesville, and Vivian (Daniel) Argoe of South Carolina, and Erica (Todd) Connor of Troutman; nephews, Ja’neal Burke, Devon Caldwell and Marcus Smith; special friends, Jamey Johnson, David Jones, Shane Ratliff, and Derrise Frazier; his Iredell Warriors Teammates; neighbors and friends.
