On Saturday October 23, 2021, Rita Irene Gonzales (Cormier), loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away at the age of 82.
Rita was born on July 12, 1939, in Fall River, Mass., to Alfred and Irene (Sinnott) Cormier. On June 3, 1960, she married Richard Frank Gonzales. They raised five children, Tane, Richard Jr., Kevin, Janet and Melissa.
Rita enjoyed spending time watching the birds in her backyard, taking care of her grandsons, Clayton and Cyrus, and her little dog Shiloh. She loved reading and was an avid fan of Boston sports teams. She was kind and generous to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her love of God showed through her compassionate spirit. She was there to lend a hand to all.
Rita was preceded in death by her father, Alfred, and mother, Irene; two brothers, Roland and Roger; and sister, Theresa.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Gonzales of Davidson, N.C.; five children, Tane DiTullio (Gonzales) and her husband Biagio DiTullio of Chelmsford, Mass., Richard Gonzales Jr. and his wife Lynn Gonzales (George) of Shrewsbury, Mass., Kevin Gonzales and his wife Kim Gonzales (Small) of Berlin, Mass., Janet Gonzales of Davidson, N.C., and Melissa Coil (Gonzales) and her husband Casey Coil of Mooresville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, John, Katie, Sarah, Olivia, Nina, Clayton, and Cyrus; and three great grandchildren, Gavin, Fionn and Nora.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 29, 2021, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Mooresville, N.C. Burial will follow at Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville, N.C. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
