Ruby Marie Sells Murdock, 94, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021.

Ruby was born August 17, 1926, in Catawba County to the late Johnnie Love Sells and Lucy Gilleland Sells. On October 23, 1946, she married the late Bill Glenn Murdock.

She worked for various companies over the years as a bookkeeper, finally retiring from Matthews Construction Co. Ruby was a faithful member of Western Avenue Baptist and especially enjoyed attending the Lydia Sunday School Class. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching Tarheel Basketball, Atlanta Braves Baseball, playing Rummy, Canasta and her Bridge Clubs. She cherished her time vacationing with family at the beach and mountains and especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Greg Murdock; son-in-law, Jay Raymer; brother, Leo Sells; and a sister, Peggy S. Duncan.

She is survived by her daughter, Rita M. Raymer; her sister, Faye S. Poston; daughter-in-law, Sandy Murdock; her grandchildren, Matt Raymer (Ashley), Wendy Kastor (Brad), Charlie Murdock (Summer), and LeAnne Romero; her great grandchildren, Jackson and Mason Raymer, Taylor and Olivia Kastor, and Carli, Bryson and Taylin Murdock, along with various nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Western Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Spry officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the Troutman First United Methodist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Matt, Jackson and Mason Raymer, Charlie Murdock, Brad Kastor and Philip Reavis. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lydia Sunday School Class at Western Avenue Baptist Church.
