Sarah Elizabeth “Lib” Deese Brackett, 95, entered her Heavenly home on Sunday, April 18, 2021. Lib was born in Marshville, N.C., on October 30, 1925, to the late William J. Deese and Jessie Kerley.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Kermit C. “Babe” Brackett; son, Bishop Bobby S. Brackett; infant grandson, David S. Brackett; son-in-law, Bishop Ray T. Lewis; brothers, Bill Deese and Jackie Kerley; and sisters, Katherine Smith and Joanne Brown.

She is survived by daughters, Judith B. Lewis of Concord, Darlene B. Hicks and husband Rev. Franklin Hicks of Concord and Kathy B. Pegram and husband Bishop Steve Pegram of Monroe, Ga.; sons, David H. Brackett and wife Sue of Davidson, Bishop Rick D. Brackett and wife Gayle of Matthews; and daughter-in-law, Joyce C. Brackett of Stanley. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; sister, Delores K. Holden; brothers, Kenneth and Herman Kerley; special sister-in-law, Martha Kerley; and “adopted granddaughter” Leanna Moore.

Lib was a charter member of Cornelius Church of God and continued her faith in the Church of God. She read her Bible through each year, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school to the youth and adults, was a prayer warrior and a worker within the church. Lib enjoyed crocheting, was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening both vegetables and flowers, loved Perry Mason books and movies, watching Hallmark movies and mysteries, spending time with family and friends, and watching the Washington Redskins with Babe. Lib retired from General Times in Davidson with approximately 25 years of service.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 21, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a service following at 11  a.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Rick D. Brackett and Bishop Lawrence Ownbey officiating. A special prayer will be given by Rev. Franklin Hicks.

Burial will follow the service at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery in Cornelius.
